The community served by the North Central Special Services District includes many nonprofit organizations working to provide essential services to meet the needs of local residents. Generally, nonprofits have limited budgets and manpower and depend on the generosity of volunteers to accomplish their goals. Organizations try to accommodate all kinds of volunteer interest and offer both short- and long-term opportunities. Some of the ways to get involved include
- adult education,
- afterschool programs,
- arts programming,
- clothing drives and donations,
- housing for the homeless,
- literacy programs, and
- meal programs and food cupboards.
